…Crooked Media, the progressive podcast network best known for shows such as Pod Save America, has created a Coronavirus Relief Fund to raise money for organizations that are working to help those in need. It has set a goal of raising $750,000 and has raised more than $475,000 so far. The money will be distributed across a variety of organizations focused on hunger, health care needs and sectors particularly hard-hit such as restaurant workers, domestic workers, and other service industry workers. …iHeartRadio has responded to a growing number of coronavirus-focused podcasts by adding a section in its podcast category drop-down selection to help listeners find the latest podcasts to help them stay informed about the outbreak. The coronavirus section currently includes 19 podcasts.
…CNN Audio is pivoting the focus of its Boss Files podcast in response to the coronavirus outbreak. Anchor and podcast host Poppy Harlow is launching a limited series called “Leadership in Action” that during the next several weeks will feature conversations with CEOs, executives and company founders who are navigating the coronavirus crisis in real-time. The focus will be on how they’re looking out for their employees and how they’re planning for a future that might look very different. The first episode features Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg, who talks about how Facebook is finding and removing false information about the virus from the platform, and that they are continuing to pay employees and contractors to ease their financial stresses.
…Google has reportedly begun rolling out a redesigned version of its Google Podcast app for Android phone users. The biggest update in the new version is that it will include an auto-downloading feature so someone who subscribes to a podcast won’t need to manually download new shows as they are published. It’s part of a series of updates tracked by 9to5Google that aren’t yet in the hands of every Android phone user. The new features also include the ability for users to select which podcasts they want to receive new show alerts from. And podcast suggestions are now listed in a dedicated “Discover” tab.
