…Patreon, the online giving platform that lots of podcasters rely on to receive donations for listeners, has released its annual tally of giving. The company says patrons have donated a combined $1 billion to podcasters, artists, musicians and other content creators this year. To put that into context, Patreon says it calculates internet users would have to watch 131.6 billion ads to make creators as much revenue. No specific numbers were released for podcast donations. The company says the donations came from four million patrons, an increase of a million patrons using the website in less than a year. 

…The Wall Street Journal has hired Kateri Jochum as Executive Producer of Audio for the company. She oversees the team that produces seven daily and two weekly podcasts. Jochum most recently spent the past year at The Skimm where she was Senior Director of Audio where her duties included Executive Producer of several of the news site’s podcasts. Prior to that, she spent eight years at ABC News Radio and the German broadcaster Deutsche Welle.

…AdLarge Media, the parent to podcast ad seller cabana, has hired Dave Boretti as Vice President of Midwest Sales. Boretti is a veteran media sales executive with over 30 years of experience in radio, podcasting, and streaming audio. He most recently was Midwest Director of Sales for PodcastOne since 2015. Boretti earlier worked at radio companies including Spanish Broadcasting System, Univision Radio, and Westwood One.

…Luminary, the subscription podcast service, has announced it is offering a half-price offer through Dec. 4 for anyone that signs up for an annual plan. Rather than the usual $8 per month, users will be charged $4. Luminary launched last April and it has so far declined to make public any information about how many subscribers it has secured. It replaced its CEO last month with founder Matt Sacks now serving as Executive Chairman
