Wondery CEO Hernan Lopez says his company’s revenue “more than doubled” in 2019 thanks to a “significant increase in non-advertising revenue, driven by audio and TV licensing deals.” Lopez said Wondery now has ten shows either being adapted for TV or already ordered to series. In a series of Twitter posts, Lopez said Wondery released its 2019 results to investors and employees this week. Among the highlights was Wondery-produced shows collectively spent 105 days at No. 1 on the Apple Podcasts chart last year. Lopez said Wondery’s total global unique audience hit 21.5 million in December, which was more than double December 2018. 

…Spurred on by the success of the New York Times-produced The Daily, the BBC is reportedly planning to launch a daily news podcast. The Times of London reports the podcast will pull from the network’s global news resources that include radio, TV and online and come as the BBC looks to trim its budget by roughly $100 million during the next four years. The BBC already produces two other daily news podcasts. …StreamGuys’ streaming and podcast technology is heading down under. The California company has inked a deal with Agile Broadcast to become the exclusive distributor of its products to broadcasters and podcasters in Australia and New Zealand. StreamGuys EVP Jason Osburn says Agile Broadcast has “very strong” relationships with radio operators in the two countries that it sees as a key target for growth. “Broadcasters in the region can now have in-depth discussions about streaming with the same people they talk to about encoders, consoles and playout systems, making it easy for them to unify their traditional and forward-looking operations,” Osburn said.
