It’s just a few weeks until the iHeartRadio Podcast Awards will honor the top podcasts in the U.S. on Jan. 17 while the new year comes with word from London that U.K. radio operator Global will add podcasts to its annual Global Awards for the first time.
Seven shows have been nominated in the Best Podcast category, including David Walliams’ Marvellous Musical Podcast, Here We Go Again with Stacey Solomon, Full Disclosure with James O’Brien—all three created by Global—as well as Acast’s The Adam Buxton Podcast, the indie show My Dad Wrote A Porno, the Guardian newspaper’s Today In Focus, and the Hush Ho, Pepperdine Productions and Dot Dot Dot Productions-produced Dear Joan and Jericha. The winner will be chosen through public voting.
Global is the parent to U.K. radio stations including Capital, Heart, Classic FM, Smooth, Radio X, Capital XTRA, Gold and LBC. The company’s Global Player app not only includes online streams of those stations but also more than 1,500 podcasts.
The Global Awards 2020 will be presented March 5 at Hammersmith’s Eventim Apollo in London. It will also honor the best in music in a variety of genres. “This is one of the biggest nights in the awards calendar and we’re so thrilled to return for a third consecutive year,” said Ashley Tabor-King in the announcement. “Now it’s time for the public to start voting for their favorite artists, songs and podcasts as we get ready to crown our winners on 5th March.”
