Public radio producer American Public Media is looking to expand its reach among Hispanics, and it is doing that through podcasting. To do that, APM has struck an alliance with the multicultural-focused podcast company ReVolver to create Spanish-language podcast programming.
The first offering from the collaboration will be a Spanish version of APM’s Brains On! podcast. The science podcast for kids will be recreated featuring Spanish-speaking scientists and kids, following the same concept as the original show. The first season of Brains On! en Español will include a dozen episodes.
“Honoring our growing multicultural audience at APM means more than translating our existing content,” said Tom De Napoli, APM’s Managing Director of Sales Strategy and Business Development. “We know that to authentically connect with the youngest and fastest growing multicultural groups in the United States, representation is even more important than translation.”
The new podcast will not be widely available, however. APM said it will become an exclusive to a “major podcast platform that will be announced this fall.” It did not identify that network, but it is expected to be the Amazon/Audible platform.
ReVolver has been growing its news and entertainment programming for Latino consumers in recent months. In February it struck a multi-year development, co-production and distribution partnership with the iHeartPodcast Network. The two companies will co-produce eight new podcasts per year in a move the companies say will capitalize on iHeart’s ability to promote and introduce the podcasts to the vast majority of the country. iHeartMedia has also become the exclusive sales representative of the ReVolver Podcast network.
