Podcasting is about to get a lot more romantic, thanks to the launch of the Frolic Podcast Network. It’s the partnership of Frolic Media, the integrated media brand for romance fans, and MWM Universe, a company that focuses on building out intellectual property into new media outlets. The new network launches with 13 podcasts.

“Romance is truly universal. It generates over $1 billion in the U.S. and is a major driver in pop culture,” said Lisa Berger, co-founder of Frolic Media. “The podcast network brings together incredibly talented voices and diverse points of view who share a passion for a great love story.”

Partnering with MWM Universe allows Frolic Media to scale quickly and build a premier network of talent in the genre. “We’re thrilled to be working with them,” added Sarah Penna, co-founder of Frolic Media.

The Frolic Podcast Network will include a range of shows covering a variety of topics, from reviewing new books to shows that discuss the process of writing a romance novel. The podcast network is the first project under a broader deal that will see MWM leverage Frolic’s content in new ways. MWM Universe will be in charge of distributing, selling and marketing the podcasts in the network. Frolic will also leverage its social community of more than 100,000 to promote the podcasts.

In a joint announcement, the two companies say romance is one of the fastest-growing podcast genres. Among the shows it is launching is Smart Podcast, Trashy Books that will be an extension of host Sarah Wendell’s popular Smart Bitches, Trashy Books website. Other shows include Too Stupid To Live, a podcast hosted by comedian Becky Feldman that reviews romance novels that cost $5 or less, and Not Your Mom’s Romance Book Club that discusses some of the steamier romance novels on store shelves.
