Podcasters will have another entry point into Samsung Galaxy devices. The cell phone maker is adding podcast availability to the “Listen” tab on its Samsung Free app. As part of the move Samsung has struck deals with hosting company Libysn and publishers such as American Public Media to feature their shows.

“With podcasts growing in popularity, they serve as a source of news, information and entertainment for millions of Americans,” said Avner Ronen, Vice President of Product Development at Samsung Electronics America. “We are thrilled to partner with Libsyn and their broad network of podcast syndication and distribution so Galaxy consumers in the U.S. can enjoy easy access to their vast collection,” he said in a statement.

Accessible with a left swipe from the home screen, Samsung Free is the news feed that replaced Samsung Daily (and earlier Bixby) last fall. The new “Listen” tab will be available with an update to compatible Galaxy S21, Galaxy S20, Galaxy Note20, Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note10 series in the U.S.

“The past year we have all seen a shift in where and how we consume media,” said Libsyn Vice President of Podcaster Relations Rob Walch. “Having native support for podcast discovery and consumption on the Galaxy series will give consumers even more choices and opportunities to consume podcasts and that is a win for everyone.”

Libsyn President and Chief Operating Officer Laurie Sims said that getting Libysn-hosted shows on the newest platforms is also critical to growing the medium’s audience. “It is paramount that our hosted podcasts are available for consumers through all of the fastest-growing and accessible mediums,” she said.

American Public Media says its catalog of shows such as Marketplace and Don’t Ask Tig will also be included to the Samsung Free platform, which also gives users access to live TV and games.

“We are thrilled to work with Samsung on this launch as it allows us to continue our mission of honoring our growing multicultural and international audience, said APM’s Thomas De Napoli. “Being a part of the Samsung Podcasts service is an excellent way for us to reach even more young and diverse audiences on a global scale.”
