ESPN Podcasts says the average listener to shows it produces downloaded an average of 8.62 podcast episodes during May. That was an increase of 40% from a year ago, according to Rawvoice data. ESPN also says the return of sports following the COVID-19 shutdowns in March have helped increase its download numbers overall. It said Jalen & Jacoby, the five-times-a-week show hosted by Jalen Rose and David Jacoby, who blend sports and pop culture, has seen some of its strongest numbers with more than two million downloads during May, according to Rawvoice.

Overall, ESPN had 44.2 million downloads last month, the seventh month in the last eight with a total of 40 million or more downloads. May’s total was an 11% increase over April’s tally. It was also a 32% increase compared to a year ago.
