Writers are told to write about what they know, so why is it any different for radio hosts starting a podcast? That logic is on full display as YEA Networks syndicated morning show host Tino Cochino dives deeper into podcasting. He has launched a new podcast called The Aircheck in which he sits down with other radio stars from around the country to share stories and chat about radio.
“I love radio. To me, the personalities are and have always been the stars. The thing is, they’re the ones always doing the interview. No one ever interviews them. That changes now,” Cochino said.
Recent guests have included Premiere Networks syndicated morning host Bobby Bones; iHeart CHR “102.7 Kiss FM” KIIS-FM Los Angeles night personality JoJo Wright; MediaCo rhythmic CHR “Hot 97” WQHT New York morning host Ebro Darden; and J-Si Chavez, who is part of YEA Networks’ syndicated “The Kidd Kraddick Morning Show.”
Cochino’s most recent episode features iHeart urban “Real 92.3” KRRL Los Angeles morning show host Kurt “Big Boy” Alexander, whose “Big Boy’s Neighborhood” is syndicated by Premiere Networks. The conversation focused less on radio and more on racial injustice and the movements taking place.
“He’s legit one of my idols. This conversation means so much because it’s so important. From racial injustice to talking about race with children, we cover a lot. I hope that this episode is not only entertaining but educational,” Cochino said.
YEA Networks launched the syndication of “Tino Cochino Radio” in 2018 and the show now airs on more than 50 stations nationwide. Cochino, a Lubbock, TX native, garnered his first radio internship at age 13 and scored his first on-air shift at 16. Cochino’s radio stops have included San Antonio, TX, Bakersfield, CA, and his current position in mornings at rhythmic CHR “Power 93.3” KKFR Phoenix.
