It won’t put a face to a review, but it will put a voice to some. The consumer review platform Yelp is making podcast part of its marketing strategy with a new series called Behind the Review. The show is hosted by Yelp’s Small Business Expert, Emily Washcovick and features conversations with reviewers and business owners about their experiences—whether it was a positive or negative one – giving listeners behind-the-scenes insights and real life learnings.

 Listeners will hear from plumbers, florists, salon owners, restaurateurs, fitness entrepreneurs, and more about how they create unique customer experiences, providing takeaways that business owners in any industry can apply to their own operations. 

Behind the Review will also feature the other side of the Yelp experience. Through the eyes of the reviewer, listeners will also get a first-hand look at their full experience with the business experiences – whether positive or negative – not just what’s written in the review. The podcast will explore why they were compelled to review the business in the first place, if an issue was resolved, what about their experience was unique, and what other business owners can learn from the customer perspective. 

“Going ‘behind the review’ sheds light on why some experiences lead to reviews—good, bad and in between —and what that means for consumers and business owners alike,” said the company in the announcement. New episodes are added every Thursday. The show currently enjoys a 4.9 rating out of a possible five stars on Apple Podcasts.
